The latest Next Generation excavator from Cat focuses on technology to give contractors up to 45 per cent more operating efficiency while cutting fuel consumption and maintenance costs up to 10 and 15 per cent, respectively.

Replacing the 352F, the Cat 352 has the industry’s “highest level” of factory-installed technology, the manufacturer said. Cat Grade with 2D, Grade Assist, Cat Payload, Lift Assist and E-Fence are a few of the key features.

In terms of performance, the new excavator’s Smart Mode system matches engine and hydraulic power to conditions. It also has an electrohydraulic control system that eliminates the need for pilot lines, reduces pressure losses and lowers fuel consumption. The machine’s cooling system features a new on-demand fan that runs only when required, also helping to save on fuel.

Shop time is reduced with extended, as well as synchronized maintenance intervals. For instance, the fuel system filters are lined up for service at 1,000 hours, twice the previous timeilne, while the new Cat hydraulic return filter has a 3,000-hour service life — a 50 per cent increase over previous filters.

The excavator also comes with an upgraded cab. Features such as push-button start, touchscreen monitor, Bluetooth radio and a tilt-up console come standard. A 360-degree visibility package that gives operator a full view of what’s happening outside the cab is an option.

Along with the new 352, Cat also rolled out its 349 Next Generation excavator last month.
